Cricket: Delph stop Golcar run

Shepley made short work of Broad Oak, where they were only held up by a battling 60 from visiting skipper Graeme Hurlbatt. Openers Tom Denton (89no) and Sam Haigh (70no) then knocked off their 163-run target in under 30 overs.

And Slaithwaite also continued their impressive run, opener Ian Holt anchoring the innings with 62 not out, while Aussie all-rounder Marcus Hainsworth creamed a quick 80 to steer them past Meltham’s 188 all out.

Alex Scholefield fired an unbeaten 81 as Barkisland beat Micklehurst by nine wickets after Matt Steers had bagged four for 41.

Kirkburton are pulling away from the field in the Frank Platt Conference after taking all six at Emley Clarence, Louis Aspeling’s 59 not out leading the way after Lesroy Irish had taken four for 42 in restricting the Welfare ground side to 125 all out.

And that left the Riley Laners 13 points clear of Kexborough who came a cropper at home to Hall Bower, Ben Dunne (69) and Sean Barry (56) leading the victory charge after four-wicket hauls from both Tom Cliffe and Chris Sykes.

Almondbury keep winning, and they are still in with a shout of grabbing second place after a three-wicket win over Thongsbridge, while pre-season fancies Shelley again went down, this time at Marsden.

Bradley Parker made a very good 76 not out, but was trouble by a suspected broken rib, which forced him to leave the field, but only for a couple of deliveries before he had to return to the crease. But it was all to no avail as he ran out of partners, spinner Andy May doing the main damage for the Hemplow men.

Alistair Farrell (49no) finished the job off after a useful start from Martin Kyle and Danny Anchor to keep Marsden well in the Cedar Court mix.

Spare a thought for Lascelles Hall pro Ranga Godage, who took five wickets and then hit 90, only to finish a loser as Hoylandswaine gained a 16-run win, Clark Pickles top-scoring with 62 for the divisional leaders.

Lepton Highlanders stay second after a six-wicket win over Linthwaite, Arshad Ali making 49 not out, after Mumtaz Ali and Andy Gray had shared eight-wickets between them.
