Up at Chapelgate, Scholes went down to a last over defeat against Delph & Dobcross, Mike Smethurst hitting the eight they needed with four balls to spare, Bruce Cruse (51) and Luke Hargreaves (44) having earlier chased down Scholes’ 156-8 total, in which Shane Mott made an unbeaten 56.
Skelmanthorpe had eight wickets in hand in beating Slaithwaite, Sarfraz Ahmed making 67 not out after a five wicket haul from James Crossland, to keep the Lidgett Laners in striking range of Scholes.
Elland, too, were convincing winners over Broad Oak, three no-balls from Sven Burluraux sealing the Hullen Edge win, and leaving Ryan Robinson unbeaten on 49, after James Thornton’s four for 37 had pegged the Oak to 118-8, while at Micklehurst, Harlon Haye scythed through the home batting with eight for 64 as Honley won by five wickets.
Shepley skittled Sykes Cup winners Golcar for 78, Danny Glover and Romain Grenville each taking five wickets, before the home side won by nine wickets, while Barkisland beat Meltham by 10 wickets, Paul Winrow cracking an unbeaten 110 and Alex Scholefield 40 not out in just 18.2 overs.
John Sadler hit the day’s top score for 134 as Holmfirth beat Clayton West by 120 runs, Tom Craddock doing the damage with the ball taking six for 76.
