Wesleyans edge out Oak in top clash

THE top clash in Area A was at Almondbury Wesleyans where the home side just pipped Broad Oak by six runs in a marvellous match.

Both teams were previously unbeaten in the League.

Almondbury batted first and scored 98-6 with Joe Fletcher top scoring with 25 runs.

In reply Broad Oak got off to a good but slow start, making 50-0 with Ollie Smith and Swen Burluraux leading the way, but some tight fielding and good slow bowling caused problems for the later batsmen who eventually ran out of overs.

Both Meltham A and Paddock won their first games of the season in Area B against Emley and Upperthong, respectively, with Saeed Raman starring for Paddock with 22 runs and two wickets for five runs, and Zeehan Hussain also making double figures with the bat.

In the local derby between Kirkheaton and Lascelles Hall, the Hall just came out on top through better bowling and fielding. Kirkheaton reached a net score of 231 but George Somerville and Timmy Taylor gave the visitors a good start scoring 34 runs for the loss of one wicket and the others batted well to only lose another wicket.

This week's top bowlers were Thomas Gibson of Clayton West with 4-0 runs and Andy Pearson of Micklehurst with 4-3 runs, no batsman recorded over 30 but many reached 25 or more runs.
