Seven up as Burton now in semi-finals

KIRKBURTON stormed emphatically into the semi-finals of the Owlerton Sheffield Junior Challenge Cup with an excellent win 7-1 win over Doncaster and District Premier Division outfit Maltby Sheppey.

Burton took the lead on 12 minutes when Jordan Tindle and Lee Bradley exchanged passes, Bradley’s shot was well saved by the keeper but the ball ended back at his feet and he beat two men, cut inside and passed to Chris Parker to slide in and score.

Maltby’s prolific striker Steve Burns came close after 18 minutes when goalkeeper Scott Bissett came out to narrow the angle but his shot struck a post.

Burns made amends 10 minutes later slotting home an equaliser.

But Burton regained a 2-1 half-time lead when player-manager Dean Calcutt scored from the spot.

Kirkburton dominated the second half with another five goals, Calcutt adding a third when he found himself free at the back post with a pinpoint cross from hard-working Tindle and he buried the goal before substituting himself for Steve Chandler with 30 minutes left.

Tindle went close soon after from a great cross from midfielder John Allison but his header was well saved by the keeper.

But the stopper then made a big mistake on 65 minutes when he flapped at a clearance and Adam Wilson drove the ball back into the box where man-of-the-match Parker scrambled the ball over the line for a 4-1 lead.

Substitute Tim Capewell was soon on the scoresheet when he received a perfect cross from young full-back Nick Reed and he rose superbly at the back post to head home.

Maltby simply didn’t have an answer for Burton’s free-flowing football and Reed was the supplier for the sixth goal with another great cross this time finding Wilson who smashed the ball into the net before Capewell added a seventh.
