Amateur football is decimated

ALL football and rugby matches due to have been played this weekend on council-managed and school pitches in Kirklees have been postponed.

Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services and HOCHTIEF School Fields have taken the decision due to heavy rainfall on already-saturated grounds, with no improvement forecast for the next few days.

The District, Works, Sunday League and Kirklees Sunday League officials have postponed this weekend’s programmes and the FA have postponed Saturday and Sunday Cup matches.

But RCD Junior League secretary Eric Kershaw said there would be no blanket postponement of their fixtures.

It will be left to referees to rule on whether any matches can be played on private pitches.
