Moldgreen have got Cup class

WORKS League newcomers Moldgreen have already got Hoyle Cup pedigree!

They earned it by knocking the cup holders out of this year’s competition in their very first game.

But the reward for their thumping 7-0 victory over Heywood Irish Centre is not great; they will meet runaway league leaders Moldgreen Con in the next round.

Moldgreen were excellent value for their win at Leeds Road playing fields, as they took the home side apart.

Heywoods had won the cup for the first time at the Galpharm Stadium in style last April but could have no complaints about going out of this year’s tournament.

There were also plenty of goals for Bay Athletic, who met Ireti Athletic at Salendine Nook and won 5-0.

Adams (2), Alexander, McLaughlin and Stocker were all on target for Bay, who are enjoying a really good season to date.

They top the Division II table with 10 wins from 14 games, and recreated their league form in the cup.

A much tighter cup clash was at Lindley, where Lindley Lib defeated Berry Brow 3-1 in a good game well refereed by Ian Parker.

Brow were hit twice in the first 10 minutes by the loss of key players, when Chris Nolan and Liam Ryan both limped off injured.

Lindley went ahead through Chris Maynard but Brow hit back before half-time with a goal from substitute Paul Ellis.

The sides were pretty level until the 70th minute when Lindley made it 2-1 through Boswell. And they wrapped up the scoring with a late strike from Flooks to seal their place in the quarter finals.

Netherton won 1-0 at Walpole thanks to a goal from Watts.
