Meltham in semi-finals

MELTHAM are into the semi-finals of the Premier Division Cup after an eventful 3-0 win at Hall Green – the teams sharing three missed penalties in blustery conditions.

There was no firm favourite in this game after the same fixture in the league finished 2-2 but Meltham, who were missing their central midfield partnership of Ben Traynor and Paul Hutson, took control with two goals midway through a first half in which they had conditions in their favour.

The deadlock was broken when Tom Mathews brought down a long ball from Kaye and slid it past the keeper.

Meltham quickly added a second when George Dawson threaded the ball through the Hall Green defence for Adam Mathews to finish off.

Just after the half hour mark Meltham were awarded a penalty after Jacobs was brought down in the box but Dawson saw his spot kick saved.

However, Dawson did manage to side foot the ball home five minutes later to give the visitors a three-goal advantage.

The conditions meant that half time changed the complexion of the game completely, with Meltham having to battle against the wind, but there were few chances for either side.

With 20 minutes to go Meltham conceded a penalty but the kick was put wide only for the referee to order a retake but the second attempt was superbly saved by Adam Lawlor.

Despite Hall Green clipping the bar late on, Meltham managed to survive the last few minutes to run out worthy winners.
