ATHLETICO Monkey caused a major shock in the District FA Sunday Cup quarter-finals, beating Walpole Community 5-3.
Ben Dobson’s second-half hat trick fired the Kirklees Sunday League leaders to victory over their Sunday League counterparts.
The tie got the green light at the third time of asking after bad weather had forced postponements on two previous occasions.
Walpole were quick out of the traps netting in the opening goal on five minutes following a mistake from the visitors goalkeeper, Scott Nolan.
The Kirklees leaders hit-back 35 minutes later with Dean Siddiq first to react to the ball striking a post to convert the rebound.
On the stroke of half-time the home side regained the lead.
Five minutes after the restart Monkey levelled after some neat build-up play ended with Anthony Dobson firing home.
The visitors eventually led 4-3 before Ben Dobson sealed his hat trick five minutes from time to book a semi-final showdown with Heywood Irish Centre.
GNG Sikh Temple took advantage of Heywoods’ cup exploits to go 12 points clear at the top of Division I with a 3-1 victory against Marsh Lib.
Sikh raced into a three-goal lead thanks to first-half strikes from Kitson Gayle (2) and Joel Liburd.
Phil Bates netted in the final minute for Marsh but it proved little more than a consolation.
Helion FC continued their promotion charge with a 5-0 thrashing of Wellington in Division II.
Helion’s goalscorers were Mick Hall, Chris Scott, Ben Storrie, Jordan Ellis and Adam Stephenson.
Second-placed Cricketers Arms ran out 8-0 winners over local rivals Honley Socialists.
The hosts raced into a seven goal lead going into the interval before adding another in the second-half.
Cricketers’ goals were scored by Jackie Walker (3), Richard Hirst (2), Wayne Walker, Aaron Kirk and Seb Allen.
White Horse’s second string recorded a 5-2 victory over Heywood Irish Centre Reserves.
Duncan Duffy and Dale Joy bagged a brace each for the visitors along with Adrian Baker, who also missed a penalty.
Sam McDermott and Greg North netted for Heywood.
Gas Club and Rose and Crown had to share the points following a 1-1 draw. Foreshaw netted for the hosts.
