STEVE SLACK and Matt Mulvilhill fired Storthes Hall to victory as they maintained third place in the West Riding County Amateur League.
It was an excellent team performance from the home team as they beat Bradford-based Campion 2-0 at Woodfield Park.
Hall should have gone in front as early as the sixth minute when Campion keeper Craig Roberts dropped the ball at Dion Smith’s feet but, after getting the ball out from under his feet, the Hall wing back saw his shot at the open goal blocked by a recovering defender.
Mulvihill was a threat all afternoon and on 14 minutes he saw a snap shot scrambled around a post by Roberts.
Just after this a five-man move saw Mulvihill hit a 20-yard screamer towards the top corner but Roberts made up for his early error with a fantastic leap to tip the shot round.
On 24 minutes Mulvihill’s back heel allowed Lee Mozley’s pass to find Smith who saw Roberts acrobatically tip his shot round a post which seemed destined for the top corner.
Little had been seen of the visitors in attack but on 26 minutes Chris Graham rose to meet a corner but his effort was too high.
The home side deservedly went in front right on half time when Mulvihill’s corner was headed out to the edge of the box where Slack volleyed low into the net.
They increased their lead on 52 minutes when Chris Drew’s header on the half way line allowed Mulvihill to race through, holding off a pursuing defender and lob the keeper.
When Mulvihill again broke through on 66 minutes only a fine last ditch tackle from Danny Brown stopped him.
Campion were having more possession but finding it hard to escape the shackles which Richard Bray and the outstanding Rob Morris had applied on the two strikers.
With 10 minutes left Mulvihill again outwitted his marker down the right, cut into the box and squared the ball to Jamie Miller but from 10 yards he shot over the bar.
Two minutes later Miller broke clear and did hit the target but Roberts got down well to parry and gather the loose ball.
Bay Athletic remain top of the Premier League when goals by former Wakefield and Emley duo Lincoln Adams (2) and Steve Smith were on target in a 3-3 draw with Lower Hopton.
Meltham bid for a place in the final of the Premier Division Cup when they take on Lower Hopton in the semi-final at Brighouse Town tomorrow night (7.30).
