Hall make timely run in bid for County honours
STORTHES HALL have hit a rich vein of form to put pressure on West Riding County Amateur League leaders Bay Athletic.
Hall’s latest victory, a 3-0 demolition of Overthorpe, puts the Woodfield Park side three points off the leaders who have played a game fewer.
Good team play and short accurate passing were a feature of the first half and as early as the fourth minute Overthorpe were opened up when Chris Drew picked out Jamie Miller but, with only goalkeeper Shaun Whitford to beat, he dragged his shot wide of the far post. But the early pressure soon paid off when, on 12 minutes, Michael Tunnacliffe’s pass was taken in his stride by Chris Margis who burst past a defender to confidently dispatch a low drive into the corner.
Whitford denied two further chances from Hall’s Lee Mozley and Dion Smith before Miller went close again, cutting inside his marker and firing a shot which was just wide of an upright.
Miller finally opened his account on 29 minutes when an astute pass by Margis allowed him to spring the offside trap and beat the keeper.
After the break Overthorpe enjoyed much more possession but with the Hall defence again in mean mood, John Sykes’s goal was rarely threatened.
On 67 minutes Mozley’s long run down the right took him into the penalty area and his cross was met by Matt Mulvihill, but Whitford got down well to save.
But a third goal on 72 minutes wrapped up the points for Hall.
Nathan Inman’s right wing corner was flicked on by Mulvihill and Rob Morris was at the far post to force home the ball.
Overthorpe’s Paul Hodgson spurned the chance for a consolation when he put a weak header wide when well-placed.
