It’s Netherton versus Newsome in final

NETHERTON will meet Newsome WMC in the final of the District League’s Barlow Cup.

The big match takes place at the Galpharm on Wednesday, April 30 (7.00).

Netherton made it with a 3-1 victory over Uppermill at Marsden.

Newsome were 3-2 victors over Sovereign Sports at Syngenta.

A fine hat trick by Tom McCreadie brought Netherton their success.

They had gone behind to Jake Jacobs’ 10th-minute goal for Uppermill.

McCreadie equalised on 19 minutes and then scored a header on 25 to put his side ahead.

Both teams had chances but the goalkeepers pulled off good saves before McCreadie finally ended Uppermill’s hopes late on.

Newsome took control of their semi-final in the first half to open up a 3-0 lead before Sovereign hit back in the second period.

Neil Robshaw got the opener on 19 minutes and Newsome doubled their lead in the 30th through Dane Thornton.

Robshaw grabbed his second to make it 3-0 on 38 minutes.

The match was halted in the second half when Newsome goalkeeper Damien Brooks was taken to hospital following a collision.

He remained there overnight with suspected amnesia and a broken nose and jaw.

With Newsome having to reshuffle, Sovereign hit back with goals from Tom Maher and Carl Joseph, and almost claimed an equaliser.
