Junior Football: Collegians pipped in RCD Huddersfield Junior Football League

CELANDINE Avenue was in near perfect condition as Hall Green United arrived for their Under 12 Division III meeting with Collegians and, with both sides looking to improve on their bottom-half placings, it was all out attack from the start.
Although Hall Green started the brighter and home keeper James Rowan had to pull off a superb stop to deny James Wassell, it was Collegians who struck first when a clumsy challenge sent Kallum Farrer crashing to ground inside the penalty box, and Max Matthews drilled the resulting spot kick into the bottom corner to give Collegians the lead.
The home side’s lead was shortlived, however, as Daniel Shuman put Hall Green back on level terms within five minutes before goals from Jordan Peters and a second for Shuman gave Hall Green a comfortable lead.
Collegians battled back in the second half with goals from Thomas Burgess-Wylie and Jacob Armitage, but the points were eventually taken back to Hall Green when Jake Wassell struck the deciding goal to give Hall Green a 4-3 victory.
In the same division, Battyeford got back to winning ways with a 4-3 victory at Oxspring.
Alex McNulty (2) and Sam Mirrlees were on target for Oxspring but goals from Sam Clarke (2), Luke Beaumont and George Dudding secured the points for Battyeford, who stay hard on the tails of the leading group.
In the top division of the under 13s, Shelf grabbed their first win of the season in a 12-goal thriller with HAFC.
Callum O’Toole added to his personal goal tally by scoring four times for HAFC but, even though Isaac Baldwin added another for the Elland-based side, they were still not enough as both Harry Talbott and Daniel Beardsley scored hat tricks for Shelf which, together with a Joe Jenkins strike secured a 7-5 victory.
Cumberworth remain top of the Fourth Division in the Under 13s thanks to a solid 7-1 win over Vision.
Ben Norde put Wyke-based Vision on the scoresheet but Cumberworth’s promotion push was kept firmly on track as an Adam Melling hat trick was followed by goals from Joshua Kilner (2), Josh Thorpe and Robert Melling
Honley are well placed for the Under 14 Division I title but they were given a scare by Meltham before finally pocketing three points to keep them in pole position.
Meltham may be bottom of the division without a single point, but goals from Jordan Wimpenny and a Thackray hat trick kept the game on a knife edge as the home side struggled to maintain their flying start to the season.
Goals from Chris Melotte (2), Robbie Peto, Sam Bellas and Tashan Samuel finally settled the issue in the home side’s favour as Honley came through to win 5-4.
It was cup day for many RCD teams, and Fourth Division Lepton Highlanders pulled off one of the surprises of the first round of the Under 12s league cup with a fine victory at Second Division Wyke Wanderers.
James Hey, Joshua Sykes and Adam Rammell did the damage as Lepton secured their place in round two with a 3-1 victory.
In the Huddersfield Minor FA Under 15 Cup, Dalton Dynamoes were pushed all the way by Collegians.
Josh Wrigley netted for Collegians but replies from Jack Sommerville and James Bootland gave the Dynamoes a 2-1 win and a place in the hat for the second round draw.
