Amateur Football: AFC Emley quick off the mark for win

Emley continued to boss the game to such an extent that Glasshoughton’s first shot on target came on 29 minutes.

The crowd of over 100 were waiting in trepidation on 38 minutes as to what colour card the referee would produce for a clumsy challenge from Emley keeper Clarke.

Kurtis Noble had made the best of poor play in midfield to chase a ball that broke deep into the Emley half. Clarke, rushing out from his goal, was beaten to the ball and in an effort to clear collided with Noble. Referee Russell Tarbatt adjudged there were two covering defenders and produced a yellow.

The weather deteriorated in the second half and Emley suffered, the visitors creating two chances in the first five minutes – former Emley player Mugadze being the big danger.

Craig Wilkinson went on to replace Kenworthy with 70 minutes played and was to have the best opportunity of the half. Scully and Amos linked up well on the half way line and a fine through ball had Wilkinson one-on-one with the keeper. Sykes made a fine save, however, with his legs.

Glasshoughton created three further chances, the impressive Max Joice at full-back making an excellent interception at the back post following a Mugadze cross. Clarke was forced into two saves at his left hand post from shots by Clapham and Mugadze.

Team: Clarke, Joice, Leech, Wright, Marsh, Hazelden, Townsend, Stuart, Kenworthy, Hill, Amos. Subs: Wilkinson, Ingham, Scully.
