Amateur Football: Huddersfield Irish Centre playing fixture catch-up again

HUDDERSFIELD IC will visit Liversedge side Pack Horse in the fourth round of the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup.

Irish Centre ran out 4-1 winners – the tie should have been played on December 13! – with Adam Bell netting two and John Paul Flynn and Tom Hall the others.

Pack Horse were 6-1 winners against Golcar Con in their tie.

Irish Centre’s continued cup successes mean they have not played a league game since mid-October and, at the moment, have only cup games scheduled in the next few weeks.

Their next cup venture is to Spennymoor today in the FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup to face Hetton Lions.

Rose and Crown’s excellent run in the West Riding Sunday Trophy came to an end at Bradford’s New Inn Celtic in the fourth round.

Goals by Roy Gilpin and Luke Haigh were not enough to stop them being beaten 4-2.

Kirkheaton were too strong for Leeds Road Wanderers in the Rollinson Cup first round.

Liam Oldroyd, Daniel Cooke, Josh Havis and Delroy Campbell were on target in a 4-1 win, Dale Joy netting for Leeds Road. Kirkheaton will now host Huddersfield IC in the second round.

Of the second-round ties which were played, I cannot remember in my 20 years as fixture secretary a scoreline as big as this one – Thornhill Arms 0 Lindley WMC 28!

Paul Pyke netted seven times and there were hat tricks for Graham McLachlan and Brighton Mugadza.

Two goals apiece were scored by Chris Green, Danny Stocker, Anthony Haigh, Freddie McGillivary, Courtney Allettee and Karl Jones.

Lee Bradshaw, Bryn Green and Steven Marshall all notched to make it 12 players on the scoresheet!

In Division I, Marsh Lib were in rampant mood, putting 11 past Lepton Lib without reply and going into joint second spot.

Richard Dyson scored a hat trick, there were two goals each from Gary Robinson and Andy Morris and the others came from Phil Bates, Michael Beaumont, Andrew Hirst and Nathan Inman.

All eyes will be on the Emirates tomorrow when Arsenal entertain Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League (4.00) – especially with Sol Campbell marking Wayne Rooney.

The other top flight game tomorrow is Manchester City v Portsmouth (1.30).
