Amateur football: Irish have a chance
THERE was no joy for the four Huddersfield Sunday League sides hoping for success in the opening round of the West Riding Cup.
Huddersfield Irish Centre are the only survivors as their match at Shipley was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and they will try again tomorrow and become the only league representatives in the second round.
For the rest it was a tale of woe with Rose and Crown bowing out 7-2 at Walton Moor with Wharam netting both of their goals.
Marsh FC were at home to FC Boston and at half-time appeared to be in the running after a goalless opening 45 minutes, however as the weather deteriorated so did the hosts and they were beaten 3-0.
Golcar Con travelled to Manningham and put up a fight in difficult conditions but were ousted from the competition 6-3 – Jones, Allison and Dickinson were the visitors scorers.
