Junior Football: Lepton defeat Dalton to gain place in fourth round of RCD League Under 11 Cup
A WEEK of freezing weather seemed to offer little hope of any games being played but a rapid thaw left many pitches perfectly playable.
So, at last, a number of much-delayed League and, more importantly, Cup fixtures finally ended in a result.
Lepton Highlanders travelled just down the road for their Under 11 third round meeting with First Division rivals Dalton Dynamoes, and the trip proved worthwhile as they came away with victory and a place in the fourth round.
Lewis Toner and Alex Wright struck for Dalton but replies from Jamie Blaymires, Ceejay Green and Kallum Davies-Mosley gave the Highlanders a 3-2 win.
Meanwhile, in the same age group, another meeting of two First Division sides took place at Honley, where Ossett Town were the visitors.
Two goals from Ossett were not enough as Honley claimed their place in the last eight with goals from Thembelihce Sikhosana, Cameron Gill, Cameron Ghaffer and Gabriel Stephenson (securing a 4-2 win).
Rastrick booked a place in the last eight of the Under 12 cup with victory over HAFC.
Elland-based HAFC, who are riding high in Division IV, scored twice but their Second Division opponents proved too strong in the end and goals from Tom Meadowcroft, Oliver Ingham, Harry Fenney and Sam Smith gave Rastrick a 4-2 victory.
Meltham booked their place in the fourth round of the Under 16 cup with a fine victory at Rastrick.
The Second Division side’s single goal was not enough as First Division Meltham replied through Alex Clegg, Jonathan Bradley and Isaac Oldroyd to go through.
Dalton Dynamoes Under 17s made the trek to Penistone for their long overdue second round cup game.
Penistone were on target twice but it wasn’t enough as replies from Ricardo Ianzito, Joe Dunston, Joe McEvitt and Harvey Morris gave Dalton a 4-2 victory.
Back in the League, Rastrick Under 11s’ Division III title aspirations took a severe knock at the hands of Deighton.
Winners by 6-3 in their previous league encounter, Rastrick must have been confident of picking up another three points to keep them at the top of the division, but they were unable to find the net as Dakari Brown and Morgan scored to give Deighton a 2-0 win.
A Roberts hat trick earned Meltham a home point in their Under 11 Division IV meeting with Northowram.
There was little to choose between the promotion rivals and the visitors netted three times through Harry Doherty, Nicholas Brackenridge and Lewis Galtress.
Thankfully for Meltham, Roberts had his shooting boots on and netted three times to level the score at 3-3.
A solid win over struggling Scholes keeps Lepton Highlanders well in the Under 12 Division III promotion hunt.
Scholes were unable to find the net as goals from Alex Harrower (2), Haydon Gill (2) and Daniel Paxman secured a comfortable 5-0 win for the Highlanders.
