Junior Football: Brighouse Town win West Riding FA Under 16 Junior Cup
SULLEMAN RAFIQ bagged a hat trick as Brighouse Town Under 16s scored a 5-1 victory over Yorkshire Amateur to lift the West Riding County FA Junior Cup.
Brighouse – who won the Halifax FA Minor Cup with a 7-1 win over Warley Rangers – added to their silverware with the county’s top prize.
Dan Holmes was forced into an early save and it woke Brighouse up as they rarely looked like losing the game.
Jordan Byrnes fired the opening goal after just five minutes and Brighouse nerves were settled in the 17th when Rafiq doubled their advantage from 18 yards.
Brighouse were probably guilty of sitting on their lead and they were duly punished when Bradley Hulme hit a glorious swerving shot into the top corner just before half time to restore Yorkshire Amateur’s confidence at 2-1 down.
The goal of the game arrived 10 minutes into the second half when Dale Spink, Luke Hill and Byrnes combined to set up Rafiq, who drilled the ball home.
Rafiq went on to complete his hat trick (4-1) and the scoring was completed when Angus Hastings crowned a captain’s display with the fifth goal on 80 minutes.
