Amateur football: Dalton Crusaders win Huddersfield District League’s Groom Cup

DALTON Crusaders won the District League’s Groom Cup.

They scored a 2-1 victory over Linthwaite in the final at Lepton, despite going behind.

Tom McCreadie gave the Colne Valley side the lead on 25 minutes in the showpiece, which is for lower-division first teams.

Man of the match James White equalised for Dalton early in the second half and, 10 minutes later, Dwayne Wilkinson – another who worked hard up front for the Crusaders – got the winner. Officials were Paul Wilkinson, Steve Bottom and Tom Mallon and the presentation was made by Andrew Earnshaw, son the late, great stalwart of local football, Geoff Earnshaw.

It’s the Gee Cup final tonight (6.00) at Grange Moor between Royal Dolphins Reserves and Holmbridge Res.
