Black Bull gain consolation in Get Smart Group Kirklees Sunday League despite elimination from County Cup
BLACK BULL surprisingly went out of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Sunday Cup but have the consolation of remaining top of the Get Smart Group Kirklees Sunday League.
Bull suffered a 6-1defeat at the hands of Royston FC in the second round of the knockout but returned home to find Wellington A had been unable to knock them off the top of Division I.
Wellington, in fact, lost a high-scoring clash 11-5 to Helion Albion and missed the chance to go above Bull and second-placed Pak Rangers, who also had no game.
There were five penalties in the match – four of them to Wellington (one missed) and the other to Albion, which was converted.
It was close at half time, with Welly going 1-0 up and trailing only 4-3 at the interval.
The score moved on to 8-4 to Helion and then Welly’s heads seemed to go down.
On target for Albion were James Whyte (3), Paddy Maylett (3), Michael Castle, William Biedford, Adam Stephenson, Gavin Bell and James Cartlidge.
Anthony Haigh, Eddy Hamlett, Gareth Bradley, Neil Robshaw and Dom Harris notched for Wellington.
Inter Athletic were able to draw level on points with Wellington, after they defeated Marsh FC 5-1.
Scorers for Inter were Dean Wharam (4) and M Ackroyd. Daniel Stocker grabbed Marsh’s reply.
In Division II, second-placed Town Rangers were somewhat fortunate to beat a plucky Club Kirkheaton side 2-1.
Eddie Hunt and Kieron Kavanagh recorded for Rangers, with Richard Woodward on target for Kirkheaton.
Field Head moved up to join Clifton Rangers in third after defeating them 3-2.
Rhys Jowett, Paul Wright and Chris Rattigan scored for Head.
