Golf: West End beat crunch

HALIFAX West End are a club making positive moves to overcome the financial climate’s effect on the cost of golf.

In order to minimise costs this year, West End have come up with a number of initiatives, including the cancellation of joining fees in all categories of membership, which often means new members paying double subscription in their first year.

And a new five-day senior membership for both men and women at a cost of £565 per year has been introduced at the club, where a new couple’s membership costing £1,000 for the first year has also been launched.

To encourage new members and show what the club has to offer, West End have created a ‘taster package’ consisting of three one-hour lessons with club professional David Rishworth and three rounds of nine holes alongside a member of the pro staff.

If those taking advantage of the package then join the club within two months they will be entitled to a £50 reduction in their subscription. The package, which does not include juniors, costs £100.

In addition, a new ‘beginner’s package’ costing £180 is also on offer. This consists of six-day membership (excluding Saturday) for any of three consecutive months and includes one free lesson and discussion on golf rules with club professional Rishworth.

Details of all the offers and any other membership enquiries can be had from the club’s general manager on 01422 341878 (Ext 1) any morning Monday to Friday or from professional Rishworth on 01422 341878 (Ext 2).
