Golf: County call top players
Jan 31 2009 Huddersfield Daily Examiner
AS Yorkshire seek to recover from the disappointments of last season, when the county lost their grip on regional and national titles, 25 players have been called up for first-team squad pre-season preparations with coach Graham Walker at The Oaks, York, on February 13-14.
But there is no place for Halifax, Huddersfield Union players like Richard Broadley, who has represented the county, and Andy Shaw.
Good news for Yorkshire is that their top man Steve Uzzell, the English strokeplay champion, is remaining an amateur for this year.
Called to the first session are: Luke Brammall (Hillsborough), Scott Campbell (Hallowes), Lewis Cooper (Headingley), Gareth Evans (Northcliffe), Daniel Gavins (Wheatley), Aaron Hodkin (Wheatley), Richard Law (Low Laithes), Nick McCarthy (Moortown), Duncan McCarthy (Pannal), Luke Maguire (Howley Hall), James Maw (Hallowes), Steve Uzzell (Hornsea), Simon Coumbe (Pontefract).
Those attending the second session are: David Appleyard (South Leeds), Darryl Berry (West Bradford), Adam Best (Cleveland), Steve Brennan (Wheatley), Martin Brown (Pike Hills), Matt Evans (Rotherham), Sam Haywood (Rotherham), Tom Hesketh (Oakdale), Will Shucksmith (Alwoodley), Elliott Burdett (Malton & Norton)), Chris Halley (Malton & Norton), James Smedley (Hallowes).
