Golf: Home sweet home

THE Huddersfield Golf Club quartet of Robert Hall, Bernard Fee, Peter Newey and Richard Bates won the Union’s Jack Sykes Trophy over their own Fixby course.

On a windy day with squally showers, the Huddersfield players, who were actually the first team out in the morning, showed everyone else the way and were superbly led by Hall, who was the team’s leading scorer with an 81, and also carded the day’s second best nett tally of 72.

Hall was well-supported by Fee (86), Newey (89) and Bates (93) to post a winning total of 349, two shots ahead of Willow Valley with Crow Nest Park a further shot behind in third.

The best individual nett prize went to Dewsbury District’s Steve Cranswick with a 71.
