Megan Lockett relishing international call
ONE of Huddersfield leading young golfers has just won a call-up to the Welsh Under 18 team for two major European tournaments this summer.
Fifteen-old-year Megan Lockett will make her debut for Wales Girls Under 18s in the European Girls Team Championship in Germany between the July 10 and 14 at the St Leon-Rot Golf Club.
The Salendine Nook High School student qualifies for Wales through dad Warren (club professional at Cleckheaton) and has already played with the national side’s Under 16s and Yorkshire ladies seconds.
Megan, who is a dual member at Huddersfield and Cleckheaton, has this week been training under the eye of Welsh national coach Jeremy Bennett at Celtic Manor in preparation for the Europeans.
Following the championships in Germany, she will travel to Hungary to compete in the European Young Masters Tour at the Royal Balaton Golf & Yacht Club at the end of July.
Last year Megan finished third in the Welsh Girls Strokeplay and fourth in the Northern Girls Championship, which won her a call-up as the first reserve for the Girls Home Internationals.
She finished as runner-up to Rochelle Morris in the Huddersfield Open Championship at Crosland Heath as well as being the runner-up in the Bradford Ladies Matchplay tournament.
Now down to a handicap of four, Megan is likely to be a member of the Fixby Ladies scratch team this summer.
