Union’s juniors grab season’s first win

A SPARKLING performance in the foursomes paved the way for a first victory of the season for the Union Juniors at Crosland Heath.

York were the visitors and they quickly found themselves struggling for points as Halifax, Huddersfield took a 10-2 lead after the foursomes.

While the visitors won the singles 13-11 it wasn’t enough to prevent a 21-15 win for Halifax, Huddersfield.

West End duo Brad Hardcastle and Joe Stott started the ball rolling with a 7&5 win and that was matched at the rear of the field by Bradley Hall/Bradley Park pairing Josh Bailles and Ben Kaye.

Jon Fleetwood and Connor Judson were the only home pairing to miss out as Halifax, Huddersfield won five of the sixes matches.

However, the afternoon singles proved a slight anti-climax for the home side as they were edged out.

Hardcastle again gave Halifax, Huddersfield a great start with a 7&6 win over York’s top player Ben Statters, from Easingwold, and with further wins for Judson and Josh Morton the scene was set for a very big win.

However the York youngsters struck back hard with wins in five of the next six matches and it needed a half from Stott to stop the rot, before Bailles and Kaye settled the outcome with 4&3 and 6&4 wins.
