Longley’s run goes on

LONGLEY Park’s impressive run in the Yorkshire Scratch Team Championship goes on after another outstanding display at Filey in which they finished fourth and therefore won promotion to Division III.

Matt Colcombe was once again in great nick with rounds of 75 and a super 71 , while Tom Graves was just three back with 76 and 73, followed by Adam Walker 80, 74 and Adam Colcombe 75, 80 – his last round hampered by three lost balls.

That gave Longley an overall tally of 604, and takes them into a Division III clash next Wednesday at Pike Hills.

Halifax, Huddersfield Union rivals Ogden just missed out, finishing seventh, one place outside the promotion qualifiers.

Crosland Heath’s David Wood came out on top after a last-six countback to win the Division I prize in the latest meeting of the Wednesday Society at Longley Park.

Wood tied with Meltham’s Jack Thewlis with 37 points apiece, while Dewsbury’s Hendryk Murray was another point back in third.

A total of 37 players took part with Outlane’s Ray Peel winning the Division II prize.

Next week’s meeting is at Marsden, while the Society visit Hawksworth, Bradford the following week.

Leading results:

Division I: David Wood (Crosland Heath) 15-37; Jack Thewlis (Meltham) 15-37; Hendryx Murray (Dewsbury) 14-36; John Cocking (Marsden) 12-35.

Division II: Ray Peel (Outlane) 22-33; Tom Freeland (Meltham) 18-31.

Eight teams from eight different clubs remain in the Junior Foursomes (sponsored by Woodbrim Ltd).

The draw for the quarter-finals, to be played on Monday, July 16, is: Crow Nest Park v Longley Park; Huddersfield 2 v Woodsome Hall, Halifax West End v Halifax Bradley Hall, Marsden v Hanging Heaton.
