TOM SYKES overcame a shoulder injury to do his first testing with his new Kawasaki Superbike Racing Team.
Alongside teammate Chris Vermeulen, he took part in a three-day test at Portimao in Portugal as preparations got under way for the first race in Phillip Island, Australia, at the end of next month.
Sykes’ Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R machine is backed by www.supercasino.com, Kick Energy, Vent-Axia and Henleys and he’s confident improvements are being made.
“My shoulder injury was feeling bad after day one but the guys at the mobile clinic did a good job and that has made it much better ever since then.
“Obviously we did a lot of work on the bike to get to the bottom of a few things.
“On our latest (Showa) suspension settings there are areas where we have improved and generally there is a better feeling of what’s happening with the combination of tarmac, tyres and suspension.
“The feeling at the handlebars is definitely better overall, giving more direct feedback. We have progressed, but we still have some work to do.
“I am sure, though, we can bring what we need to Phillip Island.”
