Motorsport: Dijon Compton aims for glory in Donington’s double-header

ASHENHURST racer Dijon Compton heads for Donington Park convinced he can come away a title winner.

The 33-year-old goes into this weekend’s double-header in third place in the standings in the Harley Davidson XR1200 championship but with 50 points on offer he feels he can overhaul leader James Webb and second placed Peter Ward.

“I go to Donington feeling pretty good about it,” said Compton.

“We have had chance to do some testing and we should be fine for the event.

“While we did not race at Cadwell Park after Ben Gautrey’s tragic accident, that weekend was quite productive.

“We didn’t push things too hard with the bike and it all went well as we were in second place after qualifying – and then it was only back-markers that kept us off pole.

“I also managed to get in a run under the lap record, so we have to be fairly confident going to Donington with 50 points up for grabs and the title still there to be won.”

Netherton’s Josh Caygill also travels to the east midlands circuit in confident mood.

The MAP Triumph rider goes into the Silkolene Supersport race having had a boost at Cadwell Park.

“I managed to find another second off my personal best lap time, which was a big positive for me and the boys in the MAP Triumph team,” said Caygill.
