Lee produces great run despite sleepless nights

MELTHAM Athletic Club’s Paul Lee was the first team member across the finish line in the Pennine 10k undulating road race.

His time of 37 minutes to finish seventh overall with his average pace being 5.57 minutes per mile was remarkable after he had been enduring many sleepless nights looking after his new born baby daughter.

The overall winner was Ian Fisher, of Otley AC, who completed the race in 31-49, more than three minutes ahead of second place man, Shaun Dimelow, of Pennine Footpath Runners, who had a time of 35-08.

In the veteran categories Meltham’s Ray McArthur was second male Over 55 in a time of 40-46 and Nigel Thomas was 13th male Over 45 with a time of 44-45.

Also for Meltham was Andy Hargreaves who finished in a time of 47-13 to be 11th male Over 55 and Robert Page who was 20th male Over 55 with a time of 57-08.

Meltham ladies were thin on the ground, but Ruth Thomas had a pleasing first race of the year to finish in 49-34, fourth lady veteran Over 40 while Fiona McArthur secured second place in the lady veteran Over 55, but was disappointed with a time of 52-09.

Alison Shephard finished in 58-22 to be fifth lady veteran Over 45.

Starting from St Chad’s school in Brighouse, the race featured an undulating section before dropping down into Brighouse for a long flat run towards Bailiff Bridge. Then, there was a steep climb back up the hillside to the finish at the school.
