HUDDERSFIELD put last week’s lethargic loss behind them with a high-energy performance which brought them a 4-2 victory over Ben Rhydding’s second team.
However, it was the home side who netted first after 10 minutes, before Huddersfield burst into life and dominated the rest of the half.
Ali Ross fired in the equaliser with a thunderbolt shot from a short corner and soon afterwards Greg Moorhouse followed up to put home a deflected shot before Martin Hirst pounced on a defensive error to make it 3-1.
Huddersfield could have gone further ahead, but spurned a handful of chances with some wayward shooting.
Again Ben Rhydding started the faster in the second half but Huddersfield’s defence snuffed out everything thrown at them, until a hamstring injury left Ross handicapped and, with no substitutes, he had to spend the remainder of the game loitering in his opponents’ half.
With a man down Ben Rhydding stepped up the pace and managed to pull a goal back to put the game in the balance. But as they over-committed up front they were caught on the break and Moorhouse smashed in his second to put the game beyond doubt.
Huddersfield now lie third in the Yorkshire Premier League and need a run of strong results with nine games to go.
Team: Howarth, Ross, Hannam, Peachey, Gregory, Kaye, Kelly, Moorhouse, Hirst, Rogers, Lovatt.
Ben Rhydding IV 0 Huddersfield III 3
A FOURTH successive win has lifted Huddersfield out of the relegation zone and into a mid-table position in the Yorkshire League Division IV.
In the first half of the season Huddersfield could only draw at home with Ben Rhydding and this win shows the improvement they have made since then.
Brett Kullar went close to opening the scoring on several occasions before the breakthrough came when Luke Kelly found Andy Swindells free at the top of the D and showed great composure before slotting the ball home for his first of the season.
A couple of interceptions by Dan Cooper from Rhydding corners ensured Huddersfield were still ahead at the break, and they soon extended it when Lee Maddeford powered home from a short corner, not long after the re-start.
Paul Howarth in the Huddersfield goal was kept fairly quiet, and the visitors wrapped up the win when Craig Hindmarsh slotted home their third.
Team:Howarth, Hamed, Maddeford, Cooper, Taylor, Moscrop, Hindmarsh, Swindells, Kullar, Walker, Kelly, Dallas.
Huddersfield VI 2 Rotherham V 1
THIS was a classic top versus bottom scenario, with the leaders completely under-estimating Huddersfield, who went ahead in the first half through Ed Shimmell, who beat the keeper from close range.
And they were 2-0 up when James Lee fired one through traffic into the bottom corner before half time.
Paul Barker pulled off a goalline clearance, while keeper Oli Durrant made a good save to maintain Huddersfield’s lead.
Ed Shimmell needed hospital treatment after being accidentally cut by a Rotherham stick, and it was then that the visitors pulled one back with their big centre forward rocketing in a superb shot from the edge of the D.
Rotherham attacked hard in the last quarter, but Huddersfield soaked up the pressure to record their first win of the season and knock the visitors off top spot.
Team: Moorhouse (C), Stansfield, Barker, Flavin, Ford, Lee, Ridings, Stolworthy, Wynter, Shimell, Parkes, Cooke, Durrant.
Thirsk II 4 Huddersfield VI 7
HUDDERSFIELD were still on a high after the previous day’s victory, and despite Thirsk taking an early lead, they twice came from behind to record what in the end proved a very comfortable victory.
After Thirsk’s early strike, Chris Parkes equalised with his first goal for the sixth team and Nigel Fords also knocked in his first of the year for the second equaliser.
After the break Dan Stolworthy grabbed two goals, Ford secured his second, while Tim Blank and Ed Shimmell both got their names on the scoresheet, also with beautifully finished strikes.
Team: Moorhouse, Barker (P), Barker (J), Flavin, Ford, Lee, Stolworthy, Charman, Parkes, Blank, Shimmell, Boyle.
Bfd Uni 5 Lockwood Pk Dragons III 0
LOCKWOOD Park visited Bradford for their first outing of the New Year, but all they came away with was a 5-0 reversal and head injury for Amanda McCallum, who thankfully was okay following hospital treatment.
Bradford started strongly and led 2-0 at the interval, but the Lockwood side had their chances with some driving attacks which brought a couple of short corners, neither of which were capitalised on.
The misses proved costly as Bradford netted three more times in the second half.
Team: McCallum, McEwan, Thomas, Moorhouse, Walters, Mallinson, Sayika, Roberts, Dobson, Carter, Haigh, Creedon, Bath.
