Hirst is Valley Open champ

HILLHOUSE and Birkby’s Kevin Hirst won the Holme Valley Snooker Open Championship when he came back from being two frames down to beat Honley Conservative’s John Mellor 4-2 at Shepley’s Village Social Club.

Mellor had the highest break of the evening – a 54 that helped him to victory in the second frame – but Hirst fought back with breaks of 31, 24 and 41 to take the title.

The frame scores were 53-55, 11-79, 54-47, 46-41, 67-41, 74-23.
