Brothers ready for throw-in

HUDDERSFIELD team Brothers Pearse start the new Gaelic football season against St Benedict’s in Leeds on Sunday.

Throw-in at Beeston is 1.00 with the match in the new-look Pennine League, which now comprises two six-strong divisions, with sides meeting home and away and promotion and relegation between the sections.

The entry of teams from Liverpool (John Mitchell’s) and the North-East (Cu-Chulainns) signals a rise in interest in the sport.

Mitchells are expected to be a major force, having won the all-Britain final last season, when they won the Lancashire League.

As usual, Brothers Pearse will also be taking part in the Yorkshire League, which also includes Benedict’s and fellow Leeds sides St Anthony’s, John F Kennedy’s, Young Irelands and Hugh O’Neill’s.
