CATHRYN JAMES played up from the F team and won in the mixed, but Holmfirth E remain anchored to the bottom of Division IV after a 7-2 home defeat by Valley ST James F.
James’ victory came in the final mixed in partnership with Derek Thompson, registering a 21-16 21-12 scorline against Valley’s Dean Brearley and Bernadette Ruttle in the Huddersfield Badminton League.
Thompson was also a winner in a cracking second men’s, helping partner David Hayman recover from a 16-21 defeat to John Ellis and Brearley in the first to take victory in two close, long rubbers 21-19 22-20.

Mixed – Hayman and Winn lost to Ellis and Kerry 14-21 16-21; Whitworth and Boothroyd lost to Lawton and Fay 17-21 21-19 9-21; Thompson and James beat Brearley and Ruttle 21-16 21-12.
Valley St James A remain clear in Division I and teams from that club also top the next two sections.
