Swimming Katy Venters ready to make a big impact

“My main aim for this year was the British Nationals. I’ve been preparing for that in the recent weeks so this was good for some race practice and I’ll go there next month really confident.
“And looking long term I have to be thinking about the Commonwealth Games next year, and obviously London 2012.”
Meanwhile, fellow Borough of Kirklees swimmer Lewis Dyson clocked an 800m freestyle personal best in what turned out to be an extremely busy week for the Honley High School pupil.
Dyson, 16, touched home in 8:32.56m over 800m – good enough for 12th place, but also returned to the pool to compete in the 200m backstroke, the 200m medley and the 400m freestyle.
“It’s been a really successful week for me in Glasgow and I’m pleased with how I have performed,” he said.
“I swam a personal best in the 800m freestyle so I am really delighted with that.
“My aim in events like this is to always show that I am improving and working hard and that is what happened.”
