Tennis: Juniors serving up a treat

JUNIORS from across Huddersfield have made the knockout stages of the Sellers International Tournament at the Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club.

After the qualifying rounds, many youngsters will enter the main draw, with matches from 9.30am onwards and the semis and finals being played on Thursday and Friday.

Emily Morton made it through to the main draw in the Under 12 category, while Stephanie Carter will contest the Under 10 group.

Charlotte Kershaw also battled her way through to the main competition after being 5-2 down in the final set and saving two match points before winning 7-5 to make it to the Under 16 knockout.

Sam Bourouh, George Jenkins, William Smith and Thomas Eso all qualified for the boys Under 10 competition. Alex Spencer failed to make it into the Under 12 round but did manage to get through in the Under 14s.

Organiser Becky Lee said: “The competition is going really well so far. It has just flown by.

“Thankfully the weather has been really kind to us. There is a ban on the ‘rain’ word round here but we are expecting some showers, so we’ll just deal with that when it comes.
