Boxing: Barnsley date for Huddersfield boxer Tyrone Nurse

TYRONE NURSE aims to end 2007 with a sixth victory of the year in Barnsley next month – and lay the foundations for a Central area title challenge back in Huddersfield in March.

The hot 19-year-old boxing prospect from Netherton recently stretched his 100% professional record to 10 fights with a hometown win over Birmingham’s Jason Nesbitt.

Now Bradford’s Danny Parkinson, who used to fight under Nurse’s father and trainer Chris Aston, is being lined up as a possible opponent.

The 29-year-old chalked up 12 wins in 15 bouts between 2000 and 2005, and is back in training under Leeds-based Derek Roche.

Nurse, who fought at light-welterweight last time out, is booked for a six-round bout at Barnsley’s Brooklands Hotel on Sunday, December 6.

It’s an afternoon-into-evening dinner show, and will also feature Aston’s recent signings Chad Gaynor and Naveed Mansoori.

Gaynor, also a light-welter and 18 years old, chalked up a debut win over Manchester’s Damien Turner at Bolton in September.
