Cycling: Jake and Becky Womersley dominate at Manchester Velodrome

BROTHER and sister Jake and Becky Womersley dominated at the Manchester Velodrome.

The Sowerby Bros duo proved too hot to handle in their respective groups.

Becky won the Points, Devil, 1km Scratch and the Unknown Distance race in Group 1.

And she is sure to be promoted to Group 2 for this Friday’s track league.

Jake, riding in Group 3, won the Points & Devil race.

The final event of the fixture, the 10km Scratch race, was full of incident with two spectacular crashes.

The first was caused when Dave Stevens (Triangle RT) hit the deck after a touch of wheels with another rider.

Ivan Boyes (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) then rode over Stevens’ bike and somersaulted onto the concrete below the boards.

Martin Cleminson (Halifax Imps) was also taken out in the same smash.

A few laps later another crash in the back straight involving Stevens’ son, Hershel, and two others led to the race being abandoned.
