LIAM TARANDIJ is a British judo champion for the fifth time!
The 15-year-old from Ainley Top, who is a pupil of Brooksbank School, took the Under 38kg title at the British Judo Championships in Sheffield.
Tarandij, a member of the Judo Excellence Club in Hebden Bridge, represented Yorkshire & Humberside and won four fights to gain the gold medal, enhancing his growing reputation along the way.
Tarandij is not only in the Great Britain squad, but is also in the England talent development squad and has competed and trained in countries such as France, Holland, Belguim, Germany and Sweden.
He has recently returned from a seven-day training camp in Italy.
A talented sportsman, he has achieved this success despite being under a physio because of several injuries and also following the retirement of his long-term coach – meaning he has had to travel around gyms across the north to prepare for the British event.
He is now being coached by British international Paul Hirst, but he was ill for the Sheffield tournament so his previous coach, Jim McKeever, stepped up to help out.
