TOM BROADBENT started his time trial season with a promising sixth place in the hilly event promoted by North Lancs RC round the Circuit of Pendle.

Huddersfield Star Wheeler Broadbent rode the 28-mile course in 1hr 7min 48sec, while the best time of the day went to Alf Hilton (Congleton CC) in 1-05-02.

Broadbent’s clubmate Toby Miller, riding his first open event, finished in 1-17-20 for a creditable 26th place, writes Ivan Boyes.

Former Batley CC rider Liam Holohan was sixth place in the Eddie Soens handicap race at Aintree Race Course. The Team Raleigh pro made it into the break with 10 other riders including former Star Wheeler James Sampson (Motorpoint Pro Cycling), who jumped clear with five laps to go.

But it was James Stewart who took the victory for the Team UK Youth squad. Sampson finished in seventh and Tom Murray (Sigmasport Specialized) 24th.

Murray had better luck when he finished second in the CDNW event near Skelmersdale in Lancashire. The 50-mile race for Elite, 1st and 2nd Cat riders was won by Richard Handley (Team Raleigh).

Alistair Hepworth (Batley CC) matched Murray’s result in the 3rd and 4th Cat event over 40 miles which was won by Chris Edwards (Liverpool Mercury CC).

Jake Womersley (Aire Valley RT) had another impressive showing at the Premier Division Track League. Riding in Group 1, Womersley was fourth in the 30-lap Scratch, second in the Devil race and won the 40-lap Scratch race.
