THE Huddersfield Eagles Badminton Club brought the curtain down on their winter season with a mini tournament which involved more 30 of the club’s juniors.
The beginners’ group put into practice what they had learned during the season and the players with the top three scores were Jake Metcalf, Kate Taylor and the winner Owen Davis.
Each player received an Eagles certificate showing their progression throughout the year.
The intermediate and advanced group were paired for a handicapped tournament, with each pair playing 10 games up to 15.
The competition was jointly won by Alex Price Thomas and Simon Gott and Emily Crowther and Hannah Bennison, while in third place with just two points behind the winners were Amy Crowther and Ramneek Panesar.
“To get a turnout like we had and see the players of all abilities playing together was fantastic,” said Eagles chairman and coach Mike Hall. “Everyone at the club, coaches, helpers, secretary, committee and of course the parents, work really hard, so it is days like this which make all the effort worthwhile and caps off a really good season for us.”
Ron Mellor, who is the Eagles coach added: “We’ll be starting again after the Easter break with a summer club.”
