Hockey: Greenhead College enjoy National sporting success
GREENHEAD College returned home with a clutch of medals from the British Colleges National championships and the Sixth Form National Cup.
The girls hockey team were in action in the semi-finals of the National Cup in Somerset where they went down 2-1 to Richard Huish College, before travelling to Bath to represent Yorkshire in the Colleges National finals where they won bronze.
The Mixed hockey team were out of luck in the National Sixth Form finals in Bedford, where they finished third, having lost to Hills Road from Cambridge in the semis, but then defeated Birmingham Met in the third and fourth place play-off.
The bulk of Greenhead’s success came at Bath, where the team of 72 students who qualified for the finals in hockey, netball, cross-country, swimming, trampolining, squash, tennis and table tennis – was one of the largest participating colleges.
Max Kaye who took gold in the cross-country, while Kim Atkinson and Katie Rowe took gold in the girls’ tennis doubles championship.
Luke Johnson bagged silver in the men’s singles tennis, while Jonathan Prince and Harry Edwards were silver medal winners in the doubles, and Greenhead took bronze in the rugby union 10s.
