SHELLEY cycle racer Leon Gledhill enjoyed a golden success on duty for Yorkshire.

The Shelley High School student, 15, who rides for the Rotherham-based Planet X cycle team, produced an impressive performance at the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games at the Olympic Park in London.

The event saw 13 teams representing England North East, England North West, England Yorkshire, England East Midlands, England West Midlands, England Eastern, England Central, England South East, England South West, England South, Scotland, Ulster and Wales.

Gledhill was selected to ride for Yorkshire in the Under 16 youth section, along with Levi Moody,Struan McInnes and Gabriel Cullaigh.

Gledhill was the only member of the team to win individual gold – coming home first in the road sprint event.

He collected his second medal as the Yorkshire team won the overall gold – which also makes them the winners of the Inter Regional Road Race Championship.

The quartet also took Silver in the team time trial missing out on gold by a couple of seconds.

Cullaigh won the silver in the road race and Moody got bronze in the criterion eliminator.

The Yorkshire Girls team matched the boys by winning their title with the team including Amira Mellor, Abby-Mae Parkinson, Mel Lowther and Lauren O’Brien.
