THONGSBRIDGE Tennis Club’s Under 16 boys team have made a storming start to the Aegon Team Tennis season.
The team scored an impressive victory in Sheffield and put on a strong show to take a 6-0 victory.
The team of Andrew Atkinson, Edward Lovatt, Harry Simpson, Brad Whitwam and Corey Chan were unbeatable in the singles and carried on that form in the doubles.
And the Thongsbridge team were in control again as they took on the Northern Tennis Club, recording a resounding 5-1 win in Manchester.
The Under 18 girls team began their defence of the Northern Premier League title with a 4-2 victory over Wearside.
The team of Kim Atkinson, Holly Horsfall, Eilidh MacLean, Laura Hopton and Ella Riddle took comfortable wins in the doubles matches, while also recording two superb singles wins.
They were unfortunate in their second match, as they lost a shoot-out to Lancashire side Holcombe Brooke.
The sides were tied 3-3 after the singles and double matches, and Thongsbridge eventually lost 10-8 in the doubles tie break.
Under 12 player Ellie Chawner was unfortunate not to win a lower grade event in Nottingham.
An impressive run of victories was halted at the final hurdle as she claimed the runner-up spot.
Rising star Finn Murgett competed in a Under 10 national level event in Nottingham.
After a string of good performances, the youngster narrowly missed out on a place in the final after semi-final defeat.
A number of Thongsbridge players were in action in a County Tour Under 9 event in Hull.
Luke Wilson came an impressive second, Jacob Chadwick came fourth, while George Barton, who also won six out of eight in a matchplay event, came seventh.
Holmfirth and Huddersfield A have both made a bright starts to the Ladies Division I as they sit joint top of the table.
In the Men’s Division I the pace-setters are Thongsbridge A, Huddersfield A and Batley A who all boast 100 percent records.
Cleckheaton A and Thongsbridge B lead the Men’s and Ladies Division II respectively, while Mirfield A currently sit top of the Men’s Division III.
The Men’s Division IV is currently being led by Holmfirth A, with Cleckheaton currently in pole position in the ladies Division IV.
