Mixed start for Huddersfield’s top billiards side

HUDDERSFIELD’S leading billiards side have experienced a mixed start to their Yorkshire League campaign.

They began with a 7-0 trouncing of their own second team, but were then brought down to earth with a 5-2 defeat against current Yorkshire League champions Leeds.

Huddersfield Open champion Matthew Peaker continues to go from strength to strength and after putting together breaks of 58 and 46 to defeat John Ingleby in the opening game, he then completed an excellent victory over current Yorkshire champion and English Seniors Snooker champion John Bagley.

Huddersfield No2 0 Huddersfield No1 7: Frank Griffin lost to David Peaker 119-200; Jeremy Ford lost to Steve Whiteley 91-200; John Ingleby lost to Matthew Peaker 130-200.

Huddersfield No1 2 Leeds 5: Matthew Peaker bt John Bagley 200-100; Steve Whiteley lost to Bob Patterson 66-200; David Peaker lost to Dave Barker 115-200.

On the Yorkshire snooker front Huddersfield enjoyed a 4-2 victory over Wakefield with convincing wins from Conrad Norcliffe and Martyn Beck.

Huddersfield 4 Wakefield 2: Richard Needham lost to George Smith 23-61, 9-74; Conrad Norcliffe bt John Spooner 84-36, 80-27; Martyn Beck bt Graham Marsden 70-8, 71-37.
