Amateur RU: MCA suffer from travel sickness in final away trip

Cannadine’s second conversion sent his side in 14-7 to the good.

YM were still very much in the match and looked good throwing the ball around, but the Dinnington defence was solid and well-marshalled by former Rotherham player Dean Lax, playing at full-back.

And it was the veteran Lax who then took control, coming into the line at will, creating space and causing YM’s defence major headaches.

Cannadine was the next on the try list, although failing to convert, and was off target again eight minutes later when second row Norris scored try No4.

Dinnington were now in complete control and Lax cut the defence to pieces to cross on 64 minutes, and four minutes later inside centre Pilkington forced his way through the tackle to score.

With six minutes left Lax added his second try, and hooker Starr found a gap near the posts to score his side’s eighth try, this time close enough to the sticks for Cannadine to convert.

On this occasion YM could have no excuses, as they simply ran out of both ideas and ‘gas’ when the pressure came and they were found wanting in defence.

YMCA: Wilson; Ryder, Stead, Wrafter (Sharp), Beever; Marsden, Marshall; Dalton (Sellers), Whittaker, Dyke (Stu), Whitehead, Hellawell, Hodge, Walker, Torrance.
