Amateur rugby union: Academy all set for top final showpiece

HUDDERSFIELD’S Under 19s charged into this Sunday’s Yorkshire Plate final after demolishing Guisborough in an eight-try rout at Lockwood Park in the semi-final replay.
Having tied the previous encounter 32-32, Huddersfield powered to a 56-13 success to book a showpiece against Moortown, away, on Sunday (12.30).
Huddersfield were well aware that Guisborough’s main threat came from their forwards and the home side concentrated on playing an expansive game and utilising the whole pitch, and for the most part the plan worked.
After going behind to an early penalty, Huddersfield opened with one of their best tries of the game, when flanker Billy Dempsey broke clear and fed to No8 Sam Scott, who returned to Dempsey. He in turn found winger Brad Gorman, and although he was brought down just short of the line, he still managed to get his pass away to centre Tom van Rooyen who scored by the right corner flag.
Fly-half Chris Brook added the touchline conversion, and then from the resultant kick-off, Scott collected, beat off several tackles, broke clear and scored under the posts.
