Amateur RU: Fifth league postponement for Huddersfield
Feb 1 2010 by David Lockwood, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
“I must admit it was touch and go as to whether the Hull match went ahead, but unfortunately, in the shadow of the stand and down in the bottom corner it rarely gets any sun, and was still rock hard when the referee examined the field.
“I then had to ring round all the lads, and they all said virtually the same thing: “Oh god, we’re not getting a game again!”
“We really did Saturday’s match as a chance to claw something back, and it’s just so frustrating, but I’m afraid the weather is something no-one can control.”
Next Saturday (hopefully) is the first of the re-arranged matches against Broadstreet – who like Ionians are just above Huddersfield in the league – but they also have matches against Caldy (home), Bradford & Bingley (away), Leicester Lions (home), and now Hull Ionians (home) to fit in.
And on top of that they have to fit in the Yorkshire Cup second round tie away to Sandal, which should have been next Saturday, but naturally the League game takes priority.
YMCA notched an impressive 38-14 win at Ripon in Yorkshire II.
