HUDDERSFIELD rugby union player-coach Dan Hyde is determined to make Lockwood Park a fortress.

The men from West Yorkshire entertain in-form Westoe tomorrow (3.00) desperate to end a run of four National II North fixtures without a win.

Included in that sequence was a first home defeat of the season against Caldy.

That came after rock-solid Lockwood Park successes over Morley, Harrogate and Nuneaton.

Tomorrow’s assignment promises to be Huddersfield’s toughest so far this season, with Westoe having reached the half-century mark to beat Caldy at home last Saturday.

But Hyde is confident that if his side can maintain the form they showed in the second half of last week’s 22-10 defeat at Fylde, they can put themselves in a strong position to get back on track.

“I don’t think we got the credit we deserved from last week’s game,” said Hyde, who is aiming to keep changes to a minimum.

“Yes, we lost last week, but the scoreline certainly didn’t reflect the way the game went.

“We were very good in the second half when we showed a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and commitment, and that forced Fylde to work really hard to hold on to their lead.

“I’m confident that if we can maintain that level of performance for the full 80 minutes tomorrow we’ll put ourselves in a very strong position.

“We’re well aware of the massive threat Westoe will pose to us. But we’re determined to make Lockwood Park a really tough place to come, and we can put down a marker this weekend.

“Team spirit within the squad is excellent and our confidence is as strong as ever.”
