HUDDERSFIELD are looking forward to the Yorkshire Cup final against Hull, which has been set for York on Wednesday May 4.
The final will kick-off at 7.30pm, when coach Dan Hyde will be hoping to follow on from the stunning semi-final show against Wharfedale.
Before that, however, Field return to League action tomorrow at Hull Ionians (3.00) looking to improve their position in the National II North table.
Currently ninth and nine points behind Luctonians, they do have three games in hand – Field’s season is set to run until almost the end of May – and can start to cut the deficit tomorrow if they pull off a double over Ionians (they beat them 35-5 at Lockwood Park earlier in the season).
Skipper Nick Sharpe sneaked ahead of Chris Johnson at the head of the try scoring list with 16 to the fly-half’s 15 in Wednesday’s Cup win, and will be aiming to cross the whitewash again at Ionians, while Damian Clayton, who made a welcome return to action during the week, gets the starting nod with Joel Hinchliffe taking a spell on the bench.
Hull-based Lee Brown, who missed the Cup win because of work, resumes his second row partnership with Gav Rhodes, but the threequarters line remains the same with free-scoring wingers Simon Pratt and James Wood now starting to prove a real handful with eight tries between them in the last three games.
“I was really pleased with the way the whole team went on Wednesday, because I don’t think the scoreline reflected how good the opposition were in the early stages of the contest,” reflected Hyde.
“Of course I was pleased to get the win and reach the Yorkshire Cup final, but we’ll focus on that when we get to it. For now I’m more concerned about preparing properly for the game against Ionians.”
