Yarnbury 15
YMCA 45
(Yorkshire II)
YMCA’s celebrations kicked off in style as they sealed promotion to Yorkshire I by thumping their Leeds-based rivals Yarnbury, who themselves had harboured hopes of making a late promotion run.
A third successive hat trick of tries for Adam Ryder and another from his centre partner Alex Shaw put the shine on the finish after they had trailed 10-0 in the early stages.
YM began hesitantly with a series of dropped balls, missed passes and turnovers gifting the home side possession and Yarnbury tookadvantage of YM’s generosity when winger Chris Flowers raced in at the corner for the opening score.
And with the defence at sixes and sevens, Yarnbury were over again two minutes later through second rower Adam Malthouse, and although both conversions failed to find the mark it was a slightly worrying time for YM’s supporters.
However, they needn’t have worried, as Ryder smashed his way through the first line of defence, raced to the corner, and after the ball was knocked down by recovered by scrum half Simon Wilson, the winger crossed in the corner, with Jon Smith adding the conversion.
