Hull Ionians 13
Huddersfield RU 11
(National II North)
DESPITE a second-half fightback, Huddersfield were unable to complete back-to-back victories going down by just two points at Brantingham Park.
With former Huddersfield second rower Lee Brown prominent on his return to Hull Ionians, the home side edged the first half thanks to a try from replacement scrum half Isaac Green, who came on after just four minutes for the injured Adam Thomas.
That was all that separated the two sides at the break, the visitors struggling to get any worthwhile opportunities.
In the second half, Chris Johnson gave Huddersfield the lead with two penalties, but a second Ionians try from fly-half Glenn Boyd followed by a Simon Hammersley penalty extended Hull’s lead to 13-6.
Huddersfield continued to battle back however, and skipper Nick Sharpe cut the deficit to two points with a try in the 68th minute, but Johnson was unable to convert.
Despite the disappointment, at least the visitors gained their second bonus point of the season in as many matches, which was something they found hard to come by last season.
Huddersfield now prepare for their first home game of the season next Saturday, when newly-relegated Otley are the visitors.
